From 1 July 2025, major changes to Australia’s immigration laws and policies will take effect, impacting skilled workers, employers, and international students.

Key Skilled Visa Salary Thresholds Are Increasing
The Department of Home Affairs has announced a 4.6% increase to salary thresholds for employer-sponsored visas:
The minimum income level for “core” list occupations (the Core Skills Income Threshold (CSIT) and the Temporary Skilled Migration Income Threshold (TSMIT)): Increasing from $73,150 to $76,515
The minimum income level for “Specialist” list occupations (Specialist Skills Income Threshold (SSIT) (specialised, high-income roles)): Increasing from $135,000 to $141,210
These new thresholds apply to new applications from July 1 and affect the 482, 186, and 494 visa streams. Existing visa holders or pending applications are not impacted. New employer nominations, however, must meet the new minimum salaries (excluding superannuation).
Student Visa Fees Increased Again
The Subclass 500 student visa fee has now increased from $1,600 to $2,000. This change is now the second fee jump in two years.
