From Yoga instructors to dog trainers: the jobs the government says we need to fill

Jobs and skills Australia (JSA) have released a draft list of jobs that could be prioritized for migrant skills for fast tracked visas.





The need for more skilled workers came after the government released it Migration Strategy in December, which provided a road map in the reform of Australia’s migration system.

Jobs include but are not limited to:

  • Nurses, midwives, nurse practitioners and nurse researchers

  • Sonographers, diagnostic radiographers, anesthetists, general practitioners and several types of surgeons and specialists.

  • Family support workers, support workers, and youth workers.

  • Veterinarians

  • Ambulance officers

  • Others including; university lecturers, early childhood educators, primary and secondary teachers, school principals and special education teachers.

  • Geotechnical, civil structural, transport, electrical, industrial, mining, and aeronautical engineers.   



Senior positions that are in demand include:

  • Chief executives or managing directors

  • Sales and marketing managers

  • Advertising managers

  • Research and development managers

  • Chief information officer


This list of occupations was based on a labour market analysis and will inform the Core Skills Occupation List (CSOL) for the new Skills in Demand (SID) visa.


This list has been released for consultation and feedback from interested parties and is yet to be finalized.
